Scholarship

Sarah Grace Cook is from Huntsville, Alabama and is a senior at the University of Georgia majoring in Environmental Engineering with a certificate in Electric Mobility. Sarah Grace has been recognized on the President’s List with a 4.0 GPA. She currently serves as the president of the Equity Engineers Council and was also selected as one of ten students to represent the College of Engineering’s diversity and inclusion efforts on the Equity Engineers Council. Sarah Grace is a member in both the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and Tau Beta Pi honor society. She serves as a Tour Leader for the University of Georgia Visitors Center, served as a Teaching Assistant for Engineering Statics courses at UGA, and worked as a Dawg Camp Counselor mentoring first-year college students as they began their studies at UGA. Since January, 2022 Sarah Grace has completed four Co-Op rotations with McKenney’s Inc. in Atlanta and has experience in Project Management, Sales, and Logistics and Manufacturing. In her free time she enjoys volleyball, tennis, running, reading, and traveling.

Brianna is from Canton, Georgia and is a senior at Kennesaw State University majoring in Civil Engineering and minoring in Architecture. She has been recognized as an Honors Scholar, made Dean’s List, was a SHPE Region 7 Inspiring Shark, and she was a recipient of the HOLA Program Community Award. She has also received several scholarships including the Honors Scholarship, Zell Miller Scholarship, and the Jean Schade Boos International Study Abroad Scholarship. Brianna also serves as the academic chair for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) student chapter. She is an active member of ITE, ASCE, and SWE, and she was also a participant on the ASCE Steel Bridge Team. Brianna recently completed an internship with the Kimley-Horn Transportation Planning & Traffic Ops group.

Conner is from Bedford, New Hampshire and is a senior at the University of Georgia majoring in Civil Engineering. Conner has been recognized as a President’s scholar, made Dean’s List, and received the UNO Innsbruck Global Ambassador Award. He was also the recipient of several scholarships including the One UGA Scholarship, Norman F. and Marilyn W. Jones Scholarship, the Ottilie Wagner Hosser Scholarship Fund, and the UGA Experiential Learning Scholarship. Conner is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Honors Program, and the UGA Ice Hockey Team. Recently, Conner completed an internship with WSP in New Hampshire. In his free time, he enjoys ice hockey, sports, music, photography design, video production, and volunteering.

ASHE Georgia is proud to announce Nishu Choudhary as the 2023 Babs Abubakari Memorial Scholarship recipient which was presented at the January 2023 Luncheon. She is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Georgia Tech and is involved with the student chapters of ITE and ASHE. Congratulations Nishu!

A native of China and permanent resident in Sarasota, Florida, Alvin is a senior at Georgia Tech majoring in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Transportation and Urban Planning, and he is pursuing a minor in Philosophy. He expects to graduate in May 2023. Alvin has previously attended the University of Florida and Florida State University – both on full academic scholarships.
Alvin currently holds a 3.86 GPA… He has been named five times to the Dean’s List with distinction. He also served as an undergraduate researcher supporting curve safety.

Alvin is an active member of ASCE Georgia Tech Chapter and has served as the ASCE Co-Chair of Professional Development for the university of Florida Chapter. He has also received several ASCE awards including 1st place finishes in the Virtual City Design while serving as team captain, a Kaggle competition involving pavement raveling, and also in the Multimedia Math Challenge. He also placed 3rd in the ASCE Innovation Contest while serving as team captain. Alvin is involved in Effective Altruism, which focuses on ethical issues of artificial intelligence, and he has also volunteered as a high school math tutor.

This past summer, Alvin interned with the Georgia Department of Transportation working rotationally with three programs: roadway design, ITS, and Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety.

In the future, he hopes to work and study continuously for all modes of transportation to impact the industry with policies for the interests of the public.

A native of Norristown, Pennsylvania, Matthew is a senior at Georgia Tech majoring in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Transportation Systems. He expects to graduate in May 2023.
Matthew currently holds a 4.00 GPA… He was a recipient of the College of Engineering Honors Award. His studies at Georgia Tech have included undergraduate research in Data Analytics for Curve Crashes as well as quantifying the environmental benefits of streets that support multiple modes of travel. Matthew has also led and organized the Vertically Integrated Project: Bringing diversity to National Parks.

Matthew serves as the treasurer for the Georgia Chapter of ASCE, is a CEE Student Ambassador, and is also a Member of the ITE student chapter. In his free time, Matthew enjoys serving as the Journey Volleyball League Tournament organizer. He currently works with Wreck Tech to provide network support and software trouble shooting to Georgia Tech students

In the summer of 2021, Matthew was a roadway design intern at Moffett & Nichol in Midtown Atlanta where he assisted on GDOT projects. More recently, he just completed a summer internship with the Federal Highway Administration.

Matthew plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Transportation Systems engineering and aim for positions at public transportation agencies to ensure that his work is impactful and meaningful to the general public.

Rafegh is a graduate student at Georgia Tech concentrating in Transportation Systems Engineering, and expects to earn his Ph.D. in December 2021. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the same field from the Sharif University of Technology in Iran, and already has several years of work experience in our industry. At GA Tech, Rafegh is actively involved in both ASHE and ITE, and currently serves as President of ASHE’s Student Chapter. As part of his Ph.D. research, he is exploring ways to better understand and model urban traffic congestion. Rafegh hopes to tackle similar challenges as an engineer in the public or private sector following graduation.

Brian is a senior at the University of Georgia majoring in Civil Engineering, and he expects to graduate in December 2019. Brian is involved with ASCE, ATO, and Student Ambassador for College of Engineering. Brian has several impressive internships already under his belt, including an opportunity to be a part of GDOT’s Northwest Corridor project, as well as an internship with Brasfield & Gorrie on an $80 million bridge construction project in Tuscaloosa. Brian is seeking a career in the construction industry, with specific goal of becoming president of a privately-owned general contractor.

Natalie is a junior at Georgia Tech majoring in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in transit, and is also pursuing a minor in Global Engineering Leadership. She expects to graduate in May 2020. Natalie has taken advantage of multiple study abroad opportunities in Pacific and the Netherlands, is a member of ASCE, Chi Epsilon (current Secretary), member of sailing club, and board member and local project coordinator for GA Tech Trailblazers organization, leading service projects for the Atlanta Beltline and multiple state parks. Natalie has multiple internships with Black & Veatch and recently completed internship this summer with Hensel Phelps Construction working on concourse expansion project at Nashville Int’l. Airport. Inspired by previous experience in the Pacific and Netherlands, Natalie would like to live and work abroad in the future, with special interest in bringing lessons learned from other cultures to help build more walkable, bikeable, and livable cities here.

Aaron is a junior at Georgia Tech majoring in Civil Engineering, and he expects to graduate in December 2020. Aaron is involved with ASCE, Chi Epsilon, services projects for GA Tech Trailblazers club, volunteer leadership internship for Camp Invention in Dunwoody (focuses on bring STEM-related activities to elementary students), is a member of Album Discussion Club and part of the WREK music directing team. He completed an internship with Long Engineering working of the GA 400 project. Aaron wants to be a part of the exciting infrastructure projects he has seen being developed across Atlanta… with a special interest sustainable design and building practices.
